I have a very important tip for you today. On a flight from Frankfurt Airport to Barcelona, I did something really stupid and almost missed my flight. I always tell you guys that when you arrive at the airport, you should always go straight to your gate. I always say this in my videos! But sometimes things just happen.
On this occasion, I had plenty of time before my flight, about 3.5 hours. I knew my gate was right at the entrance of the terminal, right after security control, and I only had carry-on luggage, so I knew it would be a quick walk to my boarding gate.
But then, things happened… and I really felt the stress.
It was such a tense moment for me and I kept asking myself why I hadn’t followed my own advice.
But it wasn’t all my fault, although I could have avoided the stress since I did go to the airport with plenty of time.
That day there was a huge line at Frankfurt Airport security control; it was going out into the main hall of Terminal 1. I had never seen the lines this long… until a few weeks later, but that’s another story.
Then to top things off, they announced a gate change. Great! So my gate was no longer at the entrance of the terminal, right after security. I had to run to my new gate and got there just as they were about to give my seat to someone on standby. It all happened so quickly, that’s why I couldn’t film it.
I wasn’t planning on filming that day so my camera was nicely tucked away. When I landed in Barcelona, I took my camera out of my suitcase and filmed this video. I just had to share this experience with my Hoppers.
So my important Travel Tip for you is if you already have your boarding pass and only carry-on luggage, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS go directly to your gate once you get to the airport.
If you have to check-in bags or get your boarding pass at the airport, then give yourself extra time for this. Sometimes the check-in lines can also be long and you’ll have to wait quite a bit. When you are done, go straight to your boarding gate.
Once you are at the gate you can relax a bit. But remember, they can still change your gate, so keep checking the flight screens to confirm your gate and see if there are any changes.
Although I probably could have avoided this unpleasant situation, at airports many times things are out of our hands and you have to go with the flow. No use in getting upset since there is little you can do. I hope my bad experience will help you avoid this type of stressful situation.
Good Luck!
